8 Ely Place is located in the historical area of Holborn, the site of the Palace used by the Bishops of Ely in medieval times.
After a six-month renovation and restoration project, our Georgian townhouse now provides us with a beautiful space to meet clients and houses our team of jewellery designers, goldsmiths and setters as well as our diamond and gemstone buyer.
Sophie Lomax, Head of Jewellery Design, joined Prestons earlier this year with over a decade’s experience in the industry. Sophie leads our design team in creating fine jewellery collections and special commissions with only the highest quality precious stones. Each design is created around the personality of the gemstone and, in the case of bespoke pieces, the intended wearer.
Under the guidance of our Workshop Manager, Lorne Mehlstaubler, our goldsmiths and gemsetters work with both traditional and modern techniques to create beautiful, timeless jewellery. From an initial design to a finished piece of jewellery, each stage of the process takes place at 8 Ely Place, our London workshop. Every piece that leaves the house is accompanied by a ‘Made in London’ seal as a mark of its quality and craftsmanship.
The house has been carefully refurbished and restored to showcase its original period features. It has been decorated in a palette of Georgian colours and soft furnishings, with antique clocks, vases and ornaments, chosen only to complement the era in which the house was built. Each room has been designed to be warm and welcoming. The lounge offers clients who visit us here a comfortable setting in which to meet with Sophie or our designers.
