If you are exploring the world of gemstones, then you are exploring a world with a vast colour spectrum, each stone with its own unique shades and characteristics, created by the various elements that have created the stone itself. Here, we explore the incredible world of watermelon tourmaline, an exceptional gemstone with a colour spectrum all of its own.
The term tourmaline was derived from the Singhalese phrase ‘tura mali’ meaning, stone mixed with vibrant colours and this particular tourmaline variation is of no exception. A watermelon tourmaline is naturally a pink or soft red gemstone with a, sometimes subtle, rich green outer layer, similar to that of a ripe slice of watermelon, hence the gemstones’ playful name. To create this vivid wash of colour, a change of condition occurs during the formation of the gemstone resulting in two or more colours appearing.
This season we are delighted to introduce a selection of watermelon tourmaline to our bespoke jewellery collections. This particular collection, named ‘The Watercolour Collection’, has been designed using bold octagon cut tourmaline pieces to create a contemporary and distinctive suite. Here, we explore each piece from this new modern collection.
The Watercolour Collection, Dress Ring: The largest carat weight, this cocktail or dress ring features an incredible 10.00ct octagon cut watermelon tourmaline. This gemstone was hand-selected by our design team for its vivid distinction of colour and the delicate fade between raspberry red and emerald green.
The Watercolour Collection, Pendant: The pendant creates the focal point for this particular suite, offering the wearer a truly creative design. Here, we see a trilogy of octagon cut tourmalines, set amongst a cascading shower of brilliant white diamonds. The hand-chosen brilliant white diamonds have been designed to create a fine fluid frame and perfectly contrast the vibrant flash of colour within each watermelon tourmaline.
The Watercolour Collection, Ear Drops: The ear drops, or earrings, add the finishing touch to this three-piece suite. This exquisite pair of octagon cut watermelon tourmalines have been chosen for their asymmetrical size, creating a modern and creative twist on a traditional pair of drop earrings. Each gemstone has been hand-set beneath a fluid line of brilliant white pear and round brilliant cut diamonds, totally 0.99ct.
Each element throughout this new collection has been finished in 18ct white gold, the ultimate finishing touch to an incredible suite.
