Earlier this year, at Watches and Wonders 2023, Patek Philippe announced three new white gold Calatrava models. These watches maintain the classic round case shape of the Calatrava collection, while introducing a more modern, graphic style. The design is offered in three variants; the yellow 6007G-001, the red 6007G-010, or the sky blue 6007G-011. Colourful yet restrained, these references combine sporty flair with the refinement of a dress watch, and provide a more casual option within the Calatrava collection.
Within the wider Patek Philippe collection, the dial design of the Ref. 6007G draws inspiration from the limited-edition Ref. 6007A, which was released in 2020 at the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new manufacture. These new models draw on Patek Philippe's rich heritage and reinterpret it into a distinctly contemporary design.
The centrepiece of the Ref. 6007G is the dial. Arranged in concentric circles distinguished by three different finishing techniques, the design is both aesthetically pleasing and highly legible. The centre is adorned with a stamped guilloche 'carbon' motif, inspired by the texture of carbon fibre. The surrounding circles feature circular graining and brushing, and the overall effect lends the watch dimensionality and charm. The applied Arabic numerals are crafted from white gold and filled with a white luminescent coating for a sporty aesthetic. Pops of colour enliven the seconds hand, minutes track and hours track, in red, yellow or blue for each variation.
Both colour and texture are continued on the strap. Made from black calfskin, the surface is embossed with the same 'carbon' motif as the dial, while the stitching and lining match the signature colour. The result is a unique-looking strap, which complements the dial without drawing attention away from it.
The case offers quintessential Calatrava style, the clean round shape transitioning elegantly into the lugs. Crafted from 18ct white gold, the case is fully polished, with a simple bezel to allow the dial to take centre stage. At 40mm in diameter and 9.17mm in height, the design sits comfortably on the wrist and will easily accommodate a dress cuff. 30m of water-resistance provides peace of mind for daily wear, while a sapphire crystal case back reveals the Caliber 26-330 S C beating at the heart of the watch.
This movement is complete with all the modern technology and fine craftsmanship one would expect from a Patek Philippe caliber. It is a self-winding movement, featuring a max. 45-hour power reserve and displaying the date at 3 o'clock. The seconds hand’s motion is smooth and precise, while stop seconds allow for precise timekeeping.
In all three variations, the Ref. 6007G is modern yet traditional, blending sporty and formal elements to create a design which would be perfect for daily wear. These watches are unusual and striking, yet grounded in the manufacture's heritage. From the choice of finishes on the dial, to the excellence of the movement, to the striking touches of colour, these watches are ideal for the enthusiast looking for a Calatrava with contemporary flair.
