Off the Beaten Path - Exploring TUDOR’s Previous Models
Off the Beaten Path - Exploring TUDOR’s Previous Models
27 November 23
Over the last decade, TUDOR has gone from strength to strength, both in the UK and around the world. Here, we discover TUDOR’s rich heritage through a selection of our pre-owned watches.
TUDOR has been building up a hugely loyal following in the UK since their return to our market in 2014. A combination of rugged build quality, dedication to mechanical movements and a keen price point has made them one of the biggest horological success stories of the past few years. Here, we explore some of the models which have contributed to this success.
TUDOR’s Heritage range was one of the key families around which the brand relaunched into the watch world. Whilst the collection has evolved away from the Heritage name, its influence is certainly still being felt, particularly in the iconic Black Bay and Ranger families. One of the quirkier models from this range was the Advisor, a modern reinterpretation of a model first produced in the 1950s. What sets it apart from the vast majority of watches on the market today is its functionality; it has a mechanical alarm module, designed by TUDOR, which can be set up to 12 hours in advance. Despite the relatively large 42mm case diameter, the Advisor’s weight is reduced with the use of titanium for the case, which has an added benefit of helping with the acoustics for the alarm. A truly charming watch.
A watch that was produced for only five years between 2017 and 2022, the Black Bay Steel remains a noteworthy member of the ever-growing Black Bay family. Released shortly after the introduction of in-house movements to the Black Bay collection, this was the first Black Bay to feature a date window. The stainless steel unidirectional rotating bezel distinguishes it from the main Black Bay collection, which features bezels with coloured aluminium inserts. The design hits all the sweet spots, with the elements of the dial, hands, crown, and bracelet all referencing historic TUDOR dive watch models. A great option for someone who wants a dive watch with a twist.
Whilst the Glamour Double Date is still part of the current TUDOR collection, it was thoroughly overhauled at the end of 2018. This example is one of the first-generation models, which have details setting them apart from the current collection. If you look closely at the small seconds sub-dial at six o’clock, you will find an illustration of the TUDOR rose, a symbol associated with the brand since the 1930s. Another elegant touch is the choice of open leaf-shaped hands, complimenting the textured outer ring on the dial. A refined offering from a brand often known for their sports watches.
