Your Chosen Design Explained...

At Prestons we understand that choosing a piece of jewellery is a very personal decision. Here we explore the individual elements of your chosen design and how they combine to create the value and beauty of this incredible piece.

Sapphire

A sapphire is often considered a classic coloured gemstone choice and like a ruby, forms part of the mineral corundum family. This exquisite gemstone often features a beautifully rich or vibrant blue colour, with delicate flashes of purple and violet, but is also available in a spectrum of fancy colours including pink, yellow, purple orange and green. A sapphire is a particularly hard stone, it is due to this hardness that sapphires are featured across a multitude of jewellery types, from our contemporary dress ring collections to distinctive engagement ring designs.

A Halo Style

A halo design is one of the most popular designs for those looking for brilliance or sparkle. In most instances, it will feature one predominantly larger central stone, of any cut or colour, and will be surrounded by a delicate row or halo of much smaller diamonds. These could be, for example, round brilliant cut diamonds which add a subtle or delicate shimmer to decorate the piece of jewellery. This design is similar to that of a cluster, only the surrounding stones are much smaller in the halo, serving to compliment the central stone.

The Emerald Cut

The emerald cut dates back to the 1500s when stone cutters first began the journey to create what is now amongst one of the most popular fancy cuts. This particular cut oozes elegance due to its dramatic hall of mirror or stepped effect facets. The shape is often less fiery than a round brilliant cut but often tends to have wider and more dramatic flashes of light. The emerald cut is known for its steep cut pavilion and its large open table, often accentuating a diamond’s clarity, making cuts with supreme clarity more desirable.
