Your Chosen Design Explained...

At Prestons we understand that choosing a piece of jewellery is a very personal decision. Here we explore the individual elements of your chosen design and how they combine to create the value and beauty of this incredible piece.

Diamonds

Our showrooms understand that a diamond does not have to be flawless to be beautiful but recognise the importance of finding a diamond that is exquisitely you. A diamond is an incredibly rare precious gemstone formed over billions of years through extreme heat and pressure. In order to begin your journey to selecting the perfect diamond, it is essential to understand the principal characteristics which make each diamond as unique and as rare as you are. The 4 C’s are the basics of diamond grading, referring to the carat weight, colour, clarity, and cut grade and it is a combination of these four characteristics which combine to create your diamond's overall value.

A Contemporary Style

In every piece of jewellery we hand-sketch, design and create, our jewellery designers try to envision how these pieces will be worn and loved by you. The word contemporary is defined as belonging to the present and could therefore be interpreted as a design which is modern or perhaps even futuristic. This collection features a selection of delicate stackable dress rings, intricate fancy earrings, and decorative necklets and collars, each of which has been crafted with this a contemporary concept in mind.

The Marquise Cut

The marquise cut diamond was originally created in the 1700s by the jeweller of King Louis XV. The cut was commissioned to epitomise the lips of his beloved mistress Jean Antoinette Poisson, the Marchioness Madame de Pompadour. The marquise cut is often referred to as the ‘Navette’ cut, which translates from French into ‘little boat’, perfectly describing the unique and distinct elongated shape of each marquise cut stone. It is most often set with v-claws either side to protect the vulnerable pointed edges and is today a popular choice for an engagement ring in either a solitaire or halo style.
