Your Chosen Design Explained...

At Prestons we understand that choosing a piece of jewellery is a very personal decision. Here we explore the individual elements of your chosen design and how they combine to create the value and beauty of this incredible piece.

Diamonds

Our showrooms understand that a diamond does not have to be flawless to be beautiful but recognise the importance of finding a diamond that is exquisitely you. A diamond is an incredibly rare precious gemstone formed over billions of years through extreme heat and pressure. In order to begin your journey to selecting the perfect diamond, it is essential to understand the principal characteristics which make each diamond as unique and as rare as you are. The 4 C’s are the basics of diamond grading, referring to the carat weight, colour, clarity, and cut grade and it is a combination of these four characteristics which combine to create your diamond's overall value.

Tourmaline

The term tourmaline was derived from the Singhalese phrase ‘tura mali’ meaning, stone mixed with vibrant colours. The incredible wealth of colours shown throughout this semi-precious gemstone are a direct result of the chemical elements each stone is exposed too. Tourmaline can be found in all manner of vivid colours, from vibrant peach to electrifying neon blue. In some instances, gemstones can be found with a distinctive two-tone pattern, predominantly pink and green, known as watermelon tourmaline.

A Cluster Design

The cluster design, as the name suggests, is created with an array of precious gemstones clustered together to form one sparkling shape or piece of jewellery. This creative design can feature a selection of diamonds, semi-precious, or precious gemstones and is often associated with statement jewellery such as cocktail or dress rings. Each piece in this collection radiates light and sparkle and is the perfect choice for those looking for a true statement of personal expression.

The Pear Cut

The pear cut is often referred to as the teardrop shape and is like the oval cut, a modified brilliant cut. This shape sees a fusion of the marquise and the round brilliant to create a cut that is both unique and distinctive. The length to width ratio of pear cut diamonds can vary significantly based on the purpose of the stone. A narrow pear cut diamond is ideal for a pair of drop earrings, whilst a wider shape may be preferred for a solitaire style engagement ring.
